Description of Duties

Job Summary

The Ink Room Supervisor is responsible for the overall operation, organization, and performance of the ink department to ensure production requirements are met with the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency. This position provides hands-on leadership, technical support, and scheduling direction for the ink room staff. The Ink Room Supervisor will work closely with press operations, quality control, and production scheduling teams to maintain continuous workflow and color accuracy across shifts.


Description of Duties

· Lead, train, and support the ink room technicians in their daily responsibilities.

· Plan and assign daily ink mixing and support activities based on the production schedule and job ticket requirements.

· Ensure inks are made, adjusted, and supplied to presses on time and to specification.

· Review and approve ColorCert data entries and ensure all documentation is completed accurately.

· Provide troubleshooting support to press operators and ink techs on color matching, viscosity, and print issues.

· Oversee proper return, labeling, and storage of inks and coatings back to inventory.

· Ensure adherence to SOPs, safety policies, and environmental guidelines including hazardous waste handling and solvent storage.

· Maintain inventory of base inks, toners, solvents, and raw materials needed for ink production.

· Ensure the ink room and solvent recovery area remain clean, safe, and well-organized.

· Monitor and enforce proper housekeeping, including sealing, labeling, and staging of drums and hazardous waste.

· Ensure that all inks are mixed and prepared to meet or exceed run viscosity requirements.

· Drive continuous improvement efforts in color accuracy, material usage, and departmental efficiency.

· Maintain communication with supervisors, managers, and other departments to address concerns and optimize performance.

· Support coverage planning for vacations, PTO, and unexpected absences on all shifts.

SQF / Food Safety Responsibilities

Qualifications

3+ years of experience in an ink room or flexographic printing environment; prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.

Strong understanding of ink formulation, color matching, and print standards.

Familiarity with X-Rite Spectro Densitometers, ColorCert software, and viscosity control methods.

Working knowledge of solvent recovery processes and hazardous material handling.

Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

Ability to train and coach team members effectively.

Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Must be able to work flexible hours and cover off-shifts as needed.
