Engineering and Technical Support Manager

The Engineering and Technical Support Manager reports to the Vice President & General Manager of Operations. Plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities and projects at Overwraps Flexibles. Oversees technical activities to ensure job safety adherence, compliance with SQF policies, and that superior work performance is sustained. Organizes and measures Maintenance with strong focus on CMMS/ OPC implementation, Equipment Failure Analytics, and TPM concepts. Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with Overwraps established policies. Successfully implements, executes and sustains Lean Manufacturing Practices such as 6S (5s plus a Safety Culture) and SMED. Provide qualified technical guidance for Overwraps employees.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Production Department Managers to evaluate equipment limitations and solve barriers to productivity.

  • Monitor and analyze current trends in the marketplace. Keep informed of advances in technology, and methodology and apply that knowledge to improvements within the organization to increase performance against set goals.

  • Align with and support other areas of the company in the development and implementation of short and long-term goals to meet business objectives.

  • Participate and contribute innovative ideas in collaboration with the senior leadership.

  • Play an active role in capital planning and capital plan execution to maximize ROI and to assure on-going scheduled asset maintenance. Prepare capex budgets to help senior management make better decisions about where to invest.

  • Collaborate with other departments, senior management, and decision makers to share information, problem solve, and to clarify management objectives.

  • Manage the installation and commissioning of Capital Equipment at Overwraps Flexibles

  • Establish and maintain disciplined processes and systems for building/equipment specifications, asset tracking, preventative maintenance and regulatory requirements, i.e. SQF, TCEQ, EPA, OSH Act et al.

  • Increase the bench strength (talent acquisition) and flexibility of the Overwraps technical team. Ensure that Associates receive appropriate training and resources to perform their jobs effectively and efficiently by utilizing such tools as listed below:

  • Vibration analysis infrared thermography (IR) measurements to detect abnormal conditions and to optimize life expectancy.

  • RCFA (Root Cause Failure Analysis) training and utilizing Predictive Maintenance Techniques to identify failures before the failure happens.

SQF / Food Safety Responsibilities

  • Performance to standard metrics

  • Percent uptime on presses, laminators, slitters and pouch machines

  • Overhead variance (cost control of equipment and facilities maintenance items)

  • Completing Capex projects on time and within budget.
